In ''The New York Times,'' Robin Toner praised its “power” and wrote that the author “goes beneath the poll numbers and glib generalities that color so much political discussion.”〔http://www.nytimes.com/1993/06/20/books/america-out-of-reach.html〕 But also in the ''Times,'' Michiko Kakutani called the work “unoriginal,” “repetitious,” “shallow,” “long-winded,” “silly,” “bloated” and “overly familiar.”〔http://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/28/books/books-of-the-times-american-dream-shrinks-to-a-nap.html〕 ==References==
